Although it rained almost continuously and heavily throughout the day, but it did not dampen the spirits of the lovers of Krishna. The sky was covered with thick dark clouds and it appeared as if the rain God, Indra, was too eager to do abhishek of Lord Krishna on this auspicious day. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Devotees since early morning were busy preparing for the\ncelebration in a grand way. The program at the temple began at 4:30 am with\nMangal Arati and continued till midnight.&nbsp;\nThroughout the day people were coming to the temple to take blessings of\nthe Lord.&nbsp; Everyone who came got a cupful\nof prasadam. &nbsp;Many were fasting since\nmorning without water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One devotee told me that he was so busy in his service that\nin the evening he remembered that today he is fasting and have not taken even a\ndrop of water since midnight. &nbsp;It is\nverify said that service to Krishna is so pleasing and absorbing that devotees\nforget even their material needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/minivetsystem.com\/iskcon\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG-20190826-WA0060-1-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/minivetsystem.com\/iskcon\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG-20190826-WA0060-1-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/minivetsystem.com\/iskcon\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG-20190826-WA0060-1-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/minivetsystem.com\/iskcon\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG-20190826-WA0060-1.jpg 774w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The temple hall was beautifully decorated. In the centre of\nthe temple was the deity of Lord Krishna and Srimati Radharani. &nbsp;The altar was decorated with green leaves and colourful\nflowers. &nbsp;Krishna and Srimati Radharani\nwearing attractive dress and ornaments sat majestically on a throne. It looked\nas if they both are enjoying their pastimes in the forest groves of Vrindavan. Towards\nthe left of the main altar was the picture of Sri Sri Radha Govinda with\nChaitanya Mahaprabhu and Lord Jagannath, Lord Baladeva and Subhadra Devi. Devotees\ncontinuously sang melodious Hare Krishna kirtan and Vaishnav bhajans written by\ngreat Vaishnav acharyas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the evening there were cultural programs. Traditional\ndance, drama and specially kids\u2019 programs were liked by all. Very meticulously all the ingredients required for the ceremony\nwas prepared and put in earthen pots. A nice altar was prepared where abhsihek\nhad to be performed.&nbsp; The Lord was then\ninvited to come to the abhishek altar and be seated there. Just before the\nabhishek, devotees dressed Lord Krishna and Srimati Radharani in bathing\ngarments. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bathing ceremony of the Lord began at around 10 pm and\nthe temple hall got filled with devotees.&nbsp;\nAmidst the loud but melodious chanting of Hare Krishna Mahamantra\ndifferent sacred items were poured from the conch shells on the deities of Lord\nKrishna and Srimati Radharani. &nbsp;Scented\noil, til paste and sandalwood paste was applied on the body of the Lord. After the abhishek the\nLord was dressed in beautiful garments, ornaments and garlands and placed on\nthe main central altar. Lord Krishna\nhad appeared. A grand arati of the Lord was performed. Devotees reverentially\nparticipated in it and together sang &#8211; <em>Yasomati\nnandana, braja baro nagara\/gokula ranjana kana.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the arati everyone rushed to the prasadam hall to\nbreak their fast and enjoy delicious Krishna prasadam comprising of sabudana\nsweet, cumin rice, paneer sabji, fried potatoes, fruits and sweet lemon juice. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hundreds of devotees thronged to Iskcon New Town, Kolkata on 24th August to celebrate Janmashtami, the appearance day of Lord Krishna.
