Once His\nHoliness Radhanath Swami Maharaj visited a temple and he saw that the brahmachari\nashram (monastery) was in complete mess<\/strong>.\nThe brahmacharis\u2019 (monks) clothes were scattered, the floor had thick layer of\ndirt, the walls and the ceilings had cobwebs, plates and glasses were everywhere,\nthe bathroom was unclean. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maharaj during\nthe class spoke about the importance of cleanliness. He explained them how\nSrila Prabhupada used to say that cleanliness is next to godliness. Everyone\nheard him, appreciated the class, accepted\ntheir mistake and decided to do something about it<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After few\ndays Maharaj again came to the brahmachari ashram and found that nothing has\nchanged. It is still unclean and in mess. Maharaj did not say anything, he gave\nclass.  As usual everyone was happy after\nthe class. It was lunch time so all the brahmacharis\ntook their plates and rushed to the prasadam (dining) hall<\/strong>.  One of the monks had gone to washroom and when\nhe came out, he heard some noise in the ashram. He was surprised because he knew that at the lunch time the ashram is\nalways empty. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When he\ntried to figure out from where the noise is coming, he saw that Maharaj has\ntaken a broom, a bucket of water and was cleaning the ashram.  He was shocked. He frantically dialed the number of the senior monk and told him what\nis going on in the ashram<\/strong>. As soon as the message went all the monks ran\ntowards the ashram. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Maharaj\nrequested all of them to stay out.  No\none was allowed to enter inside. The monks begged forgiveness and said that they\nwill themselves clean the ashram. But Maharaj\npolitely declined <\/strong>and said that now it is his turn to do the service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the monks were feeling terrible<\/strong> because their spiritual father and\none of the most prominent sannyasis of the Krishna conscious movement who have\nthousands of disciples all over the world was cleaning their dirt.  But they were helpless. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everyone\nlearnt a very important lesson about the importance of cleanliness that day which\nthey would never ever forget in their life. This is not just applicable for the\nmonks but for all of us too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A great leader teaches not just by his words\nbut also by his examples. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
